Stroll through the streets of Saint-Lizier, THE medieval city par excellence! It is home to two cathedrals, the only cloister in Ariège, the Bishops' Palace, an 18th century pharmacy... discover this village in the Pyrenees, a stop on the Way of Saint James.

Located at the foot of the Couserans mountains, Saint-Lizier has written its novel in every nook and cranny of the city to classify its main monuments as World Heritage by Unesco under the roads to Santiago de Compostela.

The parish cathedral of the village below, with its choir decorated with Romanesque frescoes, has a
unique Romanesque cloister in Ariège and a fabulous treasure while
that the Notre-Dame-de-la-Sède cathedral with 12 sibyls is perched in the upper town of Saint-Lizier and adjoins the Episcopal Palace surrounded
of a XNUMXth century Gallo-Roman enclosure considered
as one of the best preserved ancient ramparts in the South of
France.
It is pleasant to leave on foot from the Hôtel Dieu which hosts
the old XNUMXth century apothecary (can be visited with a guide
from the Saint-Lizier tourist information office during school holidays). Continue
then along the small cobbled streets, lined with houses with
half-timbering and corbelling. They date for the oldest
of the XV. End with the panoramic terraces of the Palace from
which unfolds a magnificent open landscape, with the chain
the Pyrenees in the background.
