Come and discover the authentic pharmacy of the Hotel Dieu located in Saint Lizier. Original, captivating and fascinating, this 18th century pharmacy is full of secrets and incongruous anecdotes.

Centuries of history and Christian religion have bequeathed to the town of Saint-Lizier a rich cultural and religious heritage. Heritage that can be visited today, such as our authentic, perfectly preserved 18th century pharmacy.

The walls, adorned with Louis XV cherry and pear woodwork, are copiously lined with pots, earthenware vases and blown bottles formerly containing a variety of concoctions extracted from the vegetable, mineral and animal kingdoms. In addition to its medicinal utility and the preparation of medicines to relieve the sick, the pharmacy was also a veritable operating room. Displayed in one of the cabinets at the corner of the room, period instruments (saws, turnstiles and others) were once used to perform surgical procedures directly on the marble table placed in the center of the pharmacy. This arsenal today bears witness to the evolution of medical practices over the centuries!

Located within the building of the Tourist Office of Saint-Lizier, our guide will accompany you throughout the course by exposing all the rich culture that abounds in this Hôtel Dieu and the pharmacy.
