Located at an altitude of 1800 m above the village of Luzenac, Trimouns is the largest talc quarry in the world in operation and the only one in operation in France. The view of the Pyrenees is unique, in good weather you can see the Bonascre plateau, the Beille plateau, the Pic du Tarbésou or the Pic du Montcalm!
You can explore this unique place through guided tours. Our guides will reveal all the secrets of this unusual place and how it works. You will discover the geological properties of the deposit, the history of its formation and its exploitation, from the extraction to the production of this real white gold. All in a sumptuous natural setting! It is by bus that you will enter the very heart of the mining site.
The guided tour lasts about 1 hour, several stops are planned at key places on the site. A discovery that will certainly leave a lasting memory!
The reservation of the guided tour of the quarry is compulsory. The price includes the guided tour of the quarry and access to the museum space located in Luzenac.
Please note: The quarry is located at an altitude of 1800m and its visit is only possible with good weather conditions. In case of bad weather the visits can be canceled until the last moment. In case of uncertain weather, contact our reservations department on 0561051010 before going to the quarry to confirm that the visit will be maintained. The cancellation of visits being linked to the weather, everything is done to contact the people who have booked as soon as possible before the visit schedule.
Allow 30 to 45 minutes to travel with your vehicle from the Talcaneô museum in Luzenac to the talc quarry car park.

A brand new 400m² talc museum space has been created in Luzenac. An immersive and fun place that reveals all the secrets of talc and the history of the men and women who built this fabulous industrial epic in Ariège!
This space invites you to discover the world of talc, from its extraction to its transformation thanks to a tour made up of numerous visual and playful devices. In a dedicated space, follow, as if you were there, the talc from its extraction to its arrival in your home thanks to a 180° screen. Young and old, immersion awaits you: interactive media will be there to guide you!
The guided tour of the quarry also allows you to visit the museum space located in Luzenac.

For the guided tour of the talc quarry, the buses are accessible for people in wheelchairs, however they will not be able to get off at the tour stopping points, as the soil (stones/gravel) of the quarry is not suitable. The museum space is accessible to wheelchairs.
