Installed since 2007 in Ariège, in the canton of Donezan from which it took its name, the Benedictine community of twenty monks of the abbey of our lady of Donezan lives simply from working the land, breeding and small crafts.

In 1994, sixteen monks from the Abbey of Fontgombault left their motherhouse to go and found the Abbey of Gaussan, in Aude. They then lived from the work of about six hectares of vines and the breeding of about twenty goats. But in 2005, after a long community reflection, in search of a more isolated place and sheltered from the noise of the world, they decide to emigrate in the Pyrenees, in Ariège more precisely, where they acquire lost ground in the canton of Donezan.
