Located in Montaut, in the heart of Ariège, the Montaltais is part of a movement that combines the forgotten tradition of its region and a new impetus for Ariège wine. Created in 2015, it is in 2020 that the domain finds its identity. Its name, the Montaltais, testifies to a desire to do honor to the village which shelters it and which was the cradle of decisive technical innovations for the wine industry, such as the cordon de Royat. With this land rich in history, our estate is now positioned as a key player in the rebirth of Ariège as a French wine-growing area.
Initiated and carried by Joëlle Gaveaux, the Montaltais is also the fruit of a family tradition established over generations of passionate winegrowers. It is with this passion that we carry the stories of our family and our region, offering wines that respect the land on which they are grown.
From planting the vines to vinification, the entire process is carried out with respect for nature and the land, as evidenced by our membership of the Organic Farming label. This desire to be anchored in a biological approach accompanied the Montaltais from its first steps, to be confirmed in the years following its development.
This desire is also manifested by craftsmanship. The harvests are thus carried out by hand, the vinification carried out in the traditional way; instead of intensive plowing and little respect for the soil, we prefer weeding the soil to the grid and disc. Such practices guarantee quality wines, respecting and preserving nature.
The estate is located on a plateau, with a temperate humidity level. The land on which the vines grow is rich in organic matter. It requires an in-depth knowledge of our land, and to stay tuned to the weather conditions in order to choose the best times to cultivate. It is thus all the expertise of our artisanal and organic methods that is implemented in order to exploit the best of the potential of the earth. Subsequently, the wines are fermented and kept in cement vats before being bottled, for your greatest pleasure.
