The first museum in Vals was created by Father Julien Durand in 1964 in a house belonging to the Bishopric of Pamiers.
This house was bought by the municipality of Vals. The new museum, inaugurated on July 4, 2009, was transferred from the first floor to the ground floor and completed with a bar.
The whole is co-managed by the municipality and the Association of Friends of Vals.
This exhibition space presents in several display cases the archaeological material discovered on the Vals site, around the church (from prehistory to the beginning of the modern era), as well as objects from the first excavations carried out by the 'Abbé Durand in the vicinity of Montségur.
The bar-expo is open continuously during the high season (from June to October, between 11 a.m. and 19 p.m.) and the rest of the year for groups who request it.
