An ideal initiation hike to discover the mountains with the family. After a start in the forest, the trail continues along the Mourguilhou stream, crosses numerous pastures strewn with gentians and rhododendrons to the pond.

Access Departure: Coming from Ax, follow the RN20 and turn right 700m after Mérens towards the campsite. Cross the Ariège, pass to the left of the campsite and take the road which becomes a forest track. Go up the Mourguilhou valley to the car park.

1 - Parking

Take the forest track which goes up towards the east. After about a hundred meters, the path starts on the right with a sharp steepness. Borrowed by the GR10, it is marked out in red and white (concerning the direction, help yourself from the stream by always keeping it on your right), its large slabs lead to a magnificent undergrowth.

2 - Bridge of stones

Cross the Mourguilhou stream. Go up the left bank of the stream. First under the hazelnut trees, then in the pastures, the path climbs in stages to the Etang de l'Estagnol.

3 - Pond of the Count's Estagnol

Leave the GR10, and follow the yellow markings which will lead you to the Etang de Comte.

4 - Count's pond

Return by the same route. At the level of the estagnol it is possible to make a loop by the right bank of the stream (concerning the direction, as for the climb, help yourself from the stream by keeping it this time on your left) to reach the stone bridge .

5 - Bridge of stones

The return is made by the same route as the outward journey to the car park.
