Roquefixade is a commune located in the east of the Cathar Pyrenees. Historically and culturally, the town is part of the country of Olmes, a center of Cathar tragedy, combining landscapes of extreme diversity.

The castle: perched at the top of an impressive cliff, the castle of Roquefixade since the 11th century faces that of Montségur. The view embraces the Arize, Trois Seigneurs and Saint-Barthélemy massifs.
More than 100m long, this fortress is divided into two enclosures: at the bottom, a courtyard surrounded by curtain walls following the ridge line at the top, the castle itself, accessible by a gate tower, a sort of airlock closed by two doors in chicane. After destruction, ordered by Louis XIII in 1632, all that remains of it is a wall pierced by two arched windows and a tower.Stele of the Coulzonne maquis: the maquis was attacked on July 6, 1944 by 400 Germans and militia, which constituted the deadliest action in the region. 16 resistance fighters were killed there.
