The blue pond is a small pond located in the Courbière valley. The hike will allow you to enjoy a superb view of many small perched high ponds and will lead you to the Cirque d'Embans nestled at the foot of the peak of Trois Seigneurs.

Road access: From Tarascon sur Ariège, go to Surba via the D618 towards the Col de Port. Then, direction Rabat-les-Trois-Seigneurs on the D223.
Cross the village, then the hamlet of La Freyte and arrive at the end of the road.

1 - Departure

The start is at a place called Le Pla du Ressec. From there, continue on the track for about a kilometer. Cross the Courbière stream on your left.
Continue on this forest road which gradually enters a beautiful pine forest. After 400 meters, leave the track to take a hairpin right on a new track. After a few minutes of walking, the track becomes a hiking trail in the Bois Debès du Ressec which runs along the stream.
Go past a small orri. The slope steepens. After a few bends, leave Eagle Rock on your left. Cross a small stream to reach the Jasse de l'Etang Bleu where there are many ruins of shepherds' huts. Continue the climb to the pond.

2 - Blue pond

Arrived at the blue pond, the path goes to the right of the pond and gains height. It overlooks the Rives and Tirou lakes.

Continue on the path towards the Cirque d'Embans following the ridge line above the Long pond which you will leave on your left. After fording the torrent, the trail descends on a very marked slope for nearly 300 meters.

3 - Circus of Embans

When you arrive at the Cirque d'Embans, continue the descent into the Bois du Cirier. A series of switchbacks takes you to a footbridge that spans the Courbière to the Embanels hut.

4 - Embanels hut

When you get to the cabin, go right and follow the path through the summer pastures. Get to the forest track which will lead you to your starting point.
