Like a nymph emerging from the water, the reputation of Ax-les-Thermes has been built on hydrotherapy. Hot water gushes out in the heart of the town and supplies seven fountains, including the Couzillou or the Neiges fountains, some of which reach 70°. Since medieval times, they have enabled the population to cover their hygiene and cooking needs. The cold waters are, for their part, formidable natural ramparts for the city of the XNUMXth century. Long coveted by its neighbors in the Cerdans, it has settled in the shelter of three rivers: the Lauze, the Ariège and the Oriège.
