Admire the castle of Lordat, classified as a historical monument, its proud appearance with its towers and walls. During this walk, also discover an old mill, the Romanesque chapel of Axiat and the Romanesque church of Vernaux.

Access Departure: After reaching Luzenac via the RN20, take the bridge on the left coming from Tarascon, pass in front of the Maison des Vallées d'Ax, and follow Vernaux and Lordat via the D55.

1 - Departure of the hike

Leaving the car park, take a path on the left which descends through the groves towards the ruins of an old mill on the edge of the Gérul stream.
Bypass the mill and follow the old miller's path which climbs gently towards the VILLAGE OF AXIAT (880m).

2 - Possibility to visit the Chapel of Axiat

Follow the road to the right for about 300 m

3 - Take the dirt road

Otherwise, take the road to the left for about 30 m then turn left again following a lane which, near a sheepfold, turns into a dirt road.

4 - Pass the small bridge over the Cassagne stream

After passing a small plateau, the path resumes its gentle descent, winding along the mountainside amid boxwood and limestone blocks. The view is superb.
After crossing the Cassagne stream on a stone bridge, the path turns into a path and joins the path coming from the village of Urs at the COTE 610m.

5 - Turn left

Take the grassy track on the left which turns into a path to an old quarry from where a track slides gently to GARANOU.

6 - Join the Romanesque church of Vernaux

After passing in front of the drinking trough, take the street which rises quite steeply, at the level of the last house.
Go along the houses of a housing estate, turn right then shortly before a crossroads, take a path on the left which leads to a road, 200m below the Romanesque church of Vernaux (690m).

7 - Cross the village of Vernaux

Climb up to the village of Vernaux following the yellow markings on a route that follows the road and sometimes cuts the bends. Cross the village by the alleys whose slope is quite steep. A path crosses the bends of the road to lead to the village of Lordat.

8 - Return to the starting point

Cross the village of Lordat in the direction of the castle and find the parking lot of the Castle.
