The charm of Tarascon sur Ariège is due to its picturesque surroundings and also to its castella. From this point, which has given rise to innumerable panoramic photographs, one advantageously overlooks the basin of Tarascon, the whole town and the suburbs.

As soon as you cross the enclosure of what was the fortress, you will come out on the rock in the sky attracted by a tower with a clock which replaces the old main tower of the count's castle. The current tower was built on the site of the old medieval keep which was rectangular in shape. It was erected in the 18th century following the demolition of the so-called Foix gate, a large part of the materials of which, notably the bell and the clock, were reused for the construction. The Castella Tower is now the emblematic site of the city from where you have the best view of the surrounding area.
