In the heart of the small hamlet of Mazerette, on the right bank of the Hers, the church of Mazerettes is characterized by its steeple-wall which emerges at the foot of the hill.

It was in Mazerettes that the first bishop established his temporary residence in 1318. The old manor was then used as an episcopal palace and the church, mentioned as early as 1207, as the chapel of the bishops' house.
Of fairly simple architecture, this modest church contains frescoes dating from the 1533th century taking up the theme of Herod's feast but certainly also evoking the visit of Catherine de Medici and Marguerite de Navarre to Mazerettes in November 1998... Located in the immediate vicinity of the former summer residence of the bishops of Mirepoix, the little church of Mazerettes was once again in danger of ruin. In 1533, restoration work revealed the presence of a series of frescoes, hidden under the coating that covered the walls of the nave. These frescoes date from 1466, that is to say from the time of Philippe de Lévis (1537-24), XNUMXth bishop of Mirepoix.
