Fly Fishing with Hook A Lip

The Ariège Pyrenees offer many fishing opportunities. From practice in high-altitude ponds/lakes to that in relatively large and famous mountainous rivers such as Vicdessos and Ariège, the area's hydrographic network is very rich and there is no shortage of playgrounds. The small mountain streams meandering in open valleys such as the Soulcem stream which overlooks the Vicdessos valley are real little gems which not only offer breathtaking landscapes and are home to many opportunistic brown trout of modest sizes .

Fishing is open from mid-March in the river until mid-September and from the end of May for the mid-mountain lakes to end at the beginning of October.

The guides are aimed at all audiences and at all levels: from initiation to advanced level. Seasoned fishermen can indulge their passion on technical waterways such as the Vicdessos in search of good-sized fish for which the guide's knowledge of spots, fish behavior and their diets will be invaluable in view to succeed. Beginners and families will have a wide choice to tackle the fundamentals of the technique, between fishing in high mountain streams, on small rivers such as the Oriège or the Lauze or even in mountain lakes. The teaching of all the techniques of Fly Fishing is proposed to you: dry, nymph, streamer and drowned. Concepts concerning the behavior of fish and more generally the biotope of the aquatic environment will be discussed. The educational content is adapted to your level and your desires and the equipment is made available to you (Waders, canes, polarizing glasses & all consumables).

Hook A Lip will pay particular attention to offering you courses in line with your expectations in joy and good humor for which the discovery of the territory, the aquatic environment and respect for fish will be the key words.

Flyer/Editor courses

Hook A Lip also offers a 4-day fly tying course combining fishing action and fly tying in correlation with the insects observed on site. The educational content will be adapted to the desires and levels of the participants, the objective being both to make you progress in fishing technique but also to develop your knowledge of the aquatic environment with the added bonus of a significant entomological contribution.

The first 3 days will consist of 6 hours of fishing action and 2 hours of assembly lessons, the aim being to make the link between observation of the river, insects, fish behavior in order to identify the flies to imitate then make the imitations on the spot and test them immediately. The last day will be dedicated to the fishing action.

The little extras:
- Raising awareness of the protection of the environment and in particular the aquatic environment.
- Consequent contribution in terms of entomology
- Awareness of respect for fish, their handling and their release (no kill)
- Submission of a "memo" document summarizing what was seen in the session
- Delivery of photos/videos by go pro or drone
