Surrounded by a wide loop of the Hers valley, the peaceful village of Camon blossoms in a superb setting of hills.

A subtle invitation between history and architecture, it all began in 778, since legend has it that it was Charlemagne who, on his return from Roncesvalles, had a monastery and a church built. The abbey will prosper to become a simple priory of Lagrasse. But, like most of the villages in the Hers valley, Camon was destroyed by the flood caused by the rupture of the Puivert dam. The village was then rebuilt in the image of the royal fortresses and became the fortress of the meander. Philippe de Lévis, appointed prior of Camon at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, will deeply mark the village, its church and its abbey. Camon, the village of a hundred rosebushes, is also dressed in colors and scents from the month of May...

To visit: the village and the ramparts of the old priory.
The church and the private abbey can be discovered with a guide from the Cathar Pyrenees Tourist Office.
