Town of Saverdun

Very affected by the troubles of Catharism (11th-13th centuries) and the Reformation (16th and 17th centuries), the city has only retained from its medieval past the ruins of the castle tower, built "outside the walls ".
From the Renaissance, and from the 1648th to the XNUMXth century, the city center preserved a wing of the Saint-Jacques Hospital, the private mansion of the Durrieu de Madron family but also the Notre-Dame Church, rebuilt in XNUMX.

Origin of these frescoes: Jacques Fournier was born in Canté, on the Fourniès farm, very close to Saverdun. He became bishop of Mirepoix, then was elected pope under the name of Benedict XII on December 20, 1334,
