The Tarbésou is a magnificent belvedere from which you can observe Mont Valier and St Barthélémy in the West and Canigou in the East.
It is an unmissable hike in Ariège which offers a sublime view of the Pyrenees chain but which is also a perfect spot for sunrise lovers!
What's more, it is easy to access and allows everyone to enjoy a beautiful hike in the wilderness.

Access Departure:
Access from: From Foix take the N20 to Ax les-Thermes. From Ax-les-Thermes take the D613 to go towards Ascou, then the D25 towards the Col de Pailhères. Park a little before the pass, in the Pla de Mounégou car park.

1 - Pla de Mounégou (1963m)

Take the wide GR7B path (red and white markings), heading south. The track passes between the pines with hooks and remains on the flat. You quickly come to a fork.

2 - Junction (2030m)

Leave the GR7 which leads to the left towards the ponds, and also leave the path which turns right. Take between the two the path which climbs directly towards the crests of Tarbésou (south-west direction). Follow the red markings. The track leads you carefree on the crest of Mounégou which you follow uphill to the top of the peak of Tarbésou.

3 - Tarbesou peak

Arrive at Tarbésou, one of the most beautiful panoramas in the region.
