This hike to Mont Fourcat is one of the great classics of the Ariège Pyrenees. Beginning in the forest, it rises in more grassy parts to reach the summit at more than 2000 meters.

Throughout the ascent, you can admire a wide panorama. This hike is also ideal for snowshoeing.
Road access: From Tarascon sur Ariège, take the D618 towards Mercus. In the village of Mercus, turn right on the D61 which will take you to Croquié. At the entrance to the village, take the track to the left as far as the Brougues car park, where the departure will take place.

1 - Departure

Take the track that goes up in the woods towards the Col de Traucadou. After 20 minutes of walking, in a hairpin bend, turn right and leave the track. Continue on this path still in the undergrowth. Arrived at the edge of the woods, continue on the hiking trail which continues to climb on the ridge line on "Sauvegarde" until you reach the Col de la Lauzate.

2 - Col de la Lauzate

Continue uphill, always on the ridge line to reach the top of Mont Fourcat.

3 - Summit

The return will be made by the same path.
