The Fontargente ponds are located at the foot of the pass called Port d'Inclès at an altitude of 2262m, in a site that is both gentle and wild, between grassy ridges and lofty rock walls.

Access Departure: On the RN20, take the direction of Les Cabannes, then Aston. Follow the signs “Refuge du Rulhe” and “Barrage de Laparan”. To the south of the village of Aston, it will take you a good half hour to reach the Laparan dam by a road which deteriorates sharply from the Riète dam.

1 - Pla de Las Peyres (1690m)

Follow the yellow markings which go up the right bank towards the south of the Pla de las Peyres valley, then rise to the left (east) above the Aston stream.
You join the Aston stream which you follow to a metal footbridge.

2 - Metal footbridge (1890m)

Cross the footbridge and continue on the well-marked path which skirts the Malpas on the left before reaching a vast flat area.
Cross the flat area to reach the Fontargente ponds.

3 - Ponds of Fontargente (2145m)

Congratulations, you have arrived at the Etangs de Fontargente!

For the return, take the same path as on the outward journey.
