The bastide of Mirepoix is located in the Cathar Pyrenees Country, labeled Country of Art and History.
The town was rebuilt according to the regular bastide plans after a major flood in 1289. The square has retained its original medieval structure. You will be able to observe its XNUMXth century cutlery and superb half-timbered houses on wooden galleries.
Mirepoix is famous for the Maison des Consuls decorated with carved pieces of wood, and for its old Saint Maurice cathedral and its impressively large nave (22 m wide). Very attractive, Mirepoix offers many activities from April to November (Les Historical festivals, the MIMA puppet festival, the potters' market, the apple festival...).
Not to be missed under any circumstances: the big market on Monday morning! You will enjoy strolling between the stalls in a friendly and colorful atmosphere.
