Château d'Usson, a castle steeped in history

Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Aude valley, the Château d'Usson invites you on a fascinating journey into medieval history. Its thousand-year-old remains, witnesses of a past rich in twists and turns, transport you to the time of knights and lords.

Histoire:
Mentioned for the first time at the beginning of the 11th century, the castle of Usson has had a turbulent history. It was in turn the refuge of the persecuted Cathars, the rampart against Spanish invasions and the home of the lords of Usson and Alion. Today, its majestic ruins stand proudly against the sky, offering a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding landscapes.
The Heritage House: an essential complement
To deepen your knowledge of Usson Castle and the Donezan region, go to the Maison du Patrimoine. This museum, installed in the old stables of the castle, traces the history of the site from prehistory to the present day. There you will discover archaeological objects, models and information panels which will allow you to better understand the importance of this historic place.

Entertainment:
Usson Castle also offers guided tours, treasure hunts, falconry shows, night visits, stargazing, and even an Electro Créneau to enjoy or discover electronic music in an anachronistic setting, enough to liven up your whole summer!
