The Bélesta forest is made up of silver fir trees. For many centuries, the inhabitants of Bélesta, Fougax and l'Aiguillon had this precious privilege of obtaining supplies of wood for their various uses: heating, construction, etc.

The woods of the Bélesta forest were used under Colbert (1619 -1683) for the construction of boat masts in the Toulon shipyards. Wood was transported by water from Quillan sur l'Aude.
